Another Birthday Quilt Day

As you might (or might not) remember, my stitch group, the Amazing Quilt Babes get together about every 6 weeks to make a birthday quilt top for one of the members. We draw names to see when our quilt birthday is at our Christmas dinner, and we usually start the last of January or the beginning of February. This stitch day was for Shirleee (center, standing). The birthday girl comes prepared with all the pieces cut out, and ready to sew. We usually start around 9AM and stitch until 3PM or 4PM, and by that time, it's pretty much done! My birthday quilt was the Happy Jack's Pumpkin Patch.

Last year, the group decided we all really like Everything But the Kitchen Sink, but we didn't really want to invest in anymore reproduction fabrics to get a large variety in the quilt. So we decided we would exchange 9 patch blocks. I can't tell you how many we made, but you can see by the picture - there's a boatload of them in a 85" X 98" quilt!

Shirlee decided that she would make the nine-patch 9 patch blocks, and today the group made the star blocks and put the top together. Isn't it pretty?

And of course, Clyde had to help Carolyn hold things down while she sewed.

I think the cat is either about to pickpocket something out of the purse or is trying to make sure it's well guarded!

I love the quilt with all the nine-patches... my guild tried a nine-patch swap, but too many people can't follow the instructions. :(

Oh, for some reason, I always get a really strange pop-up when I ring-around to your site - is it a bit of code you need to remove?

Can you take a screen shot of what you are getting? I don't have anything special in my template. If you can't do a screenshot, then can you describe what you are getting? Maybe Bonnie needs to fix something in the ring-around? I can't email you directly because you don't have email enabled with your profile.

Beautiful, soft, old-fashioned look to this quilt. Kitties gotta help sew, it's in the rules.

Sharon, what a gorgeous top. I also love the fact that you all get together and make tops with/for one another. Sounds like a day full of fun. Our guild does tops like this for our charity quilts. There are usually about 5 or 6 of us who show up every time and we also have a lot of fun. While quilting alone is nice, doing it with fellow quilters is twice as nice, isn't it?

What a wonderful birthday idea Sharon! I think I need to suggest that to my Tangled Threads group. It sounds like so much fun. I love the stars and little nine patches.

Beautiful quilt! I've gotten so fond of the soft color fabrics and white together.

Sharon mine tried to open something too, but I have pop-ups disabled so it just tells me that it didn't open the pop-up.

I love this idea of helping each other make a quilt. Do you do this every year? Is there any rules?
